thursday-thirteen.jpg

Hello once again and welcome to another lovely Thursday Thirteen list.

I liked what I did last week with the Thursday Thirteen in giving you thirteen scenes and/or beginning sentences for your writing. I feel that is a good way to accomplish the goals of this site - giving you writing prompts.

I’m going to continue on with that until someone suggests something better or I think of something else. :) Enjoy!

Thirteen Writing Prompts - Dancing

1. “Would you care to dance?”
2. A young man, feeling a bit shy and out of place, at his first formal dance.
3. Prom
4. “Our song” comes on the radio…
5. Dancing at your wedding, your first dance as husband and wife
6. A beautiful waltz alone in the moonlight
7. “I can’t dance.”
8. You freeze, unable to stop watching the seductive tango on television
9. You’ve been entered in a dance competition. What do you do now?
10. Falling in love on the dance floor
11. Your first experience with dirty dancing
12. You’re at the ballet. What are you watching and how do you feel?
13. Watching African tribal dancers jump and dance around the fire. You’re invited to join them…

Random Word Bank Wednesday

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

writing-pad.jpgHello everyone!

Welcome to another mid-week random word bank. I rather like random word banks. There is a challenge in them that not only gets your mind working, but you can also end up with a scene that you didn’t know you had it in you to write.

I hope you find these word banks useful. If there is a type of prompt you would prefer to see, please let me know.

Remember, with all the words, you can use any form, any tense of the word. Eg. Laugh can be laugh, laughter, laughs, laughed.

For the first word bank, I don’t want you to write a short story or anything actually. What I want you to do is word association. For every word there, I want you to write the word and then write the first word that comes to your mind after.

For the second word bank, I do want you to write a short story (or something longer if you like) that incorporates this week’s theme. This round goes as usual; just include all of the words in the bank.

For the third word bank, it is something different yet again. I would like you to try your hand at writing a poem incorporating the words provided. I don’t think I have asked you to write poetry before, so it should be something new and fun for you.

Enjoy!

Dancing the Night Away

highheel.jpgDo You Only Wanna Dance?
Dancing on the Ceiling
Save the Last Dance for Me
Dancing in the Moonlight

There are so many songs about dancing and so many songs that are fun to dance to. (Okay, so the last one is about something else if you really listen to it, but…) Whether you’re someone who likes the slow rock of a slow dance, beauty of a waltz, or just like to break it loose whenever the mood hits, dancing can be for anyone.

Anyone who says “I can’t dance” is lying. They simply thing they can’t dance like they are ’supposed’ to.

But dancing isn’t always about learning steps and keeping time! Dancing is about expression and freedom. There’s nothing like the feeling of exhilaration you get when you dance with all your heart.

Dance like no one is watching.

Isn’t that how the saying goes? There’s a reason for that. Dancing like no one is watching is on the same level as pure pleasure. Pure expression. It’s no wonder that dancing is considered to be an art form. We even have reality television based around dancing – So You Think You Can Dance. (Does anyone else like that show?)

Can you tell how much I love dancing?

Today I want you to write – or even draw if you want to – about dancing. Anything to do with dancing as long as you somehow incorporate dancing. You can even write something like I’ve written here and tell the world what dancing means to you.

Let loose and go for it. Feel the freedom and pleasure.

Musical Monday

Monday, February 4th, 2008

highheel.jpgHello and happy Monday, everyone!

I was a bit stuck for a theme this week, to be honest. What did I want to write about (yes, I do some of the prompts, too) this week? What would be inspiring? What moves me and makes me feel things…?

Then it occurred to me: Dance!

I love dancing. I don’t care what time it is, what I’m wearing or how it looks – I love dancing.

I truly believe dancing is one of the most beautiful, seductive, heartfelt way human beings can express themselves. It can be random, it can be planned, and/or it can be the most moving, sensual thing you have ever seen.

There are so many types of dance, it’s hard for me to believe that someone can’t find at least one type that they enjoy.

I’ve picked out some great videos to help inspire you today. I hope you like them as much as I do and they get you going on your writing.

Enjoy! (more…)

Friday Feast 178

Friday, February 1st, 2008

friday-feast.gifIt’s that time again!

I’ve found myself being home on Fridays more often than not lately, so I’m keeping up with the feasts pretty well. I hope you’re enjoying the feasts too. Be sure to leave a link to your feast if you participate!

On to the feast!

Appetizer - What is your favorite kind of cereal?

I miss Honeycombs in the States. I always liked those. I think I will always love (and miss) Honey Nut Cheerios.

Soup - When was the last time you purchased something for your home, what was it, and in which room did it go?

I bought three tubs for organizing the spare room which I also like to think of as my office. They’re still in the spare room. I have two filled, but I couldn’t resist using the third as a foot rest until I really get the time to clean that room.

Salad - What is the funniest commercial you’ve ever seen?

Oh, lord. Australia has so many… I think my favourite is a shoe commercial where a woman tries using her shoes to kill a big spider, and the spider has this deep voice when he keeps saying, “Oh, baby.”

Something about soft leather. Hehe.

Main Course - Make up a name for a company by using a spice and an animal (example: Cinnamon Monkey).

Oh gosh. This is intersting. Let’s see… (No one said it had to be spice, animal, right?)

White Tiger Vanilla

Dessert - Fill in the blank: I haven’t ______ since ______.

Haha! I’ll be good.

I haven’t worn makeup since my birthday. (Last August.)

Brought to you by Friday’s Feast
