Contests!

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

confetti.jpgYes, I’m not holding just one contest – I’m holding two. On two of my blogs you have the chance to win some very sweet treats just by doing one simple thing…

Stopping by!

Having recently celebrated my first wedding anniversary, I want very much to spread the love and happiness to the most people the best way I know how: my blogs. That’s why I’m holding contests that are easy to win and have some (in my opinion) lovely prizes to win.

On Long Relationships you have four chances (we haven’t had a winner yet) to win a very yummy block of milk or dark chocolate. (Be sure to let me know what kind you like just in case you win…)

On Fiction Scribe you have three chances (we have had one winner so far) to win either a block of milk chocolate or a (very cute) stationary pack along with other goodies picked out by yours truly.

On both sites I have a special prize pack to give to the 100th commenters. I have some very nice Aussie prize packs full of Aussie goodies I love and have picked for this contest. (Ever heard of chocolate covered honeycomb?)

All you have to do to win either contest is stop by and comment (on posts on or after May 5th). That’s right; it’s that simple. If your comment lands on the right number then you can win. As long as you leave a valid comment (no spam) then you’re in the running.

Best of luck to everyone who enters.

Friday Feast 190

Friday, May 9th, 2008

friday-feast.gifSo… Tired… Thank goodness it’s Friday because all I want to do is sleep and relax. Of course I can’t really do that because I have a lot of catching up to do on my various blogs, but it is nice to pretend that I will be able to go take a nap as soon as I get all this done.

Even so, I do like the Friday Feast and am glad to be able to post about it rather than anything else at the moment.

On to the feast!

Appetizer - When someone smiles at you, do you smile back?

Yeah, I do. I think it’s a reaction most of the time. I can’t help but smile when someone smiles at me. To not smile when someone smiles at me would take some conscious thought.

Soup - Describe the flooring in your home. Do you have carpet, hardwood, vinyl, a mix?

There is a mix. In the loo, bathroom, and kitchen there is tile. In the other rooms, there is grey-ish carpet. We rent so it’s no use complaining, but things will definitely be different when we get a house of our own.

Salad - Write a sentence with only 5 words, but all of the words have to start with the first letter of your first name.

Julie joyfully jumps jam judiciously.

Main Course - Do you know anyone whose life has been touched by adoption?

No, actually. Not a one.

Dessert - Name 2 blue things.

I have a blue coin pure on my desk. I also have a water bottle with a blue cap on my desk.

Thirteen Writing Prompts

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
thursday-thirteen.jpg

Hello and happy Thursday Thirteen everyone!

This week’s Thursday Thirteen prompts are going to continue on with prompts, questions, first lines, and other inspiration to help you get writing.

If there is another prompt you think would be helpful, be sure to let me know in the comments or by using the ‘contact me’ button under the site description.

Thirteen Writing Prompts

1. “Shoot! Shoot now!”
2. Go to page 145 of the book nearest you. Go to the second paragraph and write down the third sentence. Now make an entirely different scene for that sentence.
3. Write a short story or poem based off the feelings you get from your favourite song.
4. “Sometimes I have to wonder if that is the moment I made the biggest mistake of my life.”
5. Do an internet search for a tag or meme. Pick one and start playing. Maybe it’ll give you some inspiration.
6. You wake up and go about your normal day. However, one thing - just one thing - about your normal day is wrong. What is it and why is it wrong?
7. “I hate you. In all of my life I have never hated anyone or anything as much as I hate you in this moment.”
8. Create a character based one someone you despise. What does the character look like and sound like. What kind of story does the character belong to?
9. Create a religion. One god or many? Any gods? How do people worship? Do they worship at all? What are some of the religious rites and traditions it involves?
10. Write 100 words based on what you think of when you read the word “fragrant”.
11. Create a tree that comes from a world where everyone depends on that tree. Why do people depend on it? What is the tree like?
12. Write a short story based on a colour theme. (Blue, purple, yellow…)
13. “Take it back. I don’t want it anymore.”

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! Random Word Bank Wednesday

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

cupcake.jpgHello once again everyone!

Welcome to another mid-week random word bank. I rather like random word banks. There is a challenge in them that not only gets your mind working, but you can also end up with a scene that you didn’t know you had it in you to write.

I hope you find these word banks useful. If there is a type of prompt you would prefer to see, please let me know.

Remember, with all the words, you can use any form, any tense of the word. Eg. Laugh can be laugh, laughter, laughs, laughed.

For the first word bank, I don’t want you to write a short story or anything actually. What I want you to do is word association. For every word there, I want you to write the word and then write the first word that comes to your mind after.

For the second word bank, I do want you to write a short story (or something longer if you like) that incorporates this week’s theme. This round goes as usual; just include all of the words in the bank.

For the third word bank, it is something different yet again. I would like you to try your hand at writing a poem incorporating the words provided.

Enjoy!

Love, Love, Love

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

lovers3.jpgToday I’ve decided not to do the random word bank. If you are truly eager for a random word bank, you can always talk to random people and ask them to give you words for your list.

You might make some new friends!

Given we are talking about love this week and there are so many things you can talk about when it comes to love, I decided to put up another “move me” prompt.

Yesterday I asked you to write about the ‘rosy glow’, first love type of love. That kind of love is wonderful and deserves its own place, but today I would like you to talk about a different kind of love.

This might not be possible to write about for some of the younger readers here, but if you don’t have direct experience you can interview people you know about theirs.

Today I would like you to talk about the long relationship kind of love. There comes a time in relationships when the rosy glow fades away and you see and feel a deeper kind of love. You may not be dreading every moment you spend apart anymore, but that’s because you’re secure in the knowledge that you love and are in love.

This deeper kind of love may take weeks, months, or even years, but time doesn’t matter. Deep love is something wonderful and should be cherished. It comes with security, understanding, and a lot more.

Write about this kind of deep love or interview people about their long relationships.

Musical Monday of Love

Monday, May 5th, 2008

heart.jpgToday is my first wedding anniversary, and because of that, I am putting up the love theme week again. Be sure to check out my other sites like Fiction Scribe to see where I’m spreading the love with fun contests to celebrate the occasion.

I wish you all a wonderful Monday and a wonderful week as well.

I have picked a nice, feel good theme. And what better feel good theme than love?

(Unless you have gone/are going through some even that would put you against love and the whole ‘love’ thing. If you are, I apologize. You might want to come back next week.)

I have mentioned love before, but this week I’m going to talk about the lovey-dovey, squishy, butterflies in your stomach kind of love. Long relationship kind of love.

I’m lucky enough to have a wonderful love in my life. I try not to talk about him too much because I still remember what it was like being single and having happily coupled/married people talk about how happy they are, but I do think my husband is one of the best guys around.

So occasionally I gush a bit about how much I love him.

In honour of the theme (and my husband), here are a few of my favourite love songs:

Friday Feast 189

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

friday-feast.gifHello and welcome to another delicious Friday Feast here on Write Anyway.

I’m very excited that it’s Friday today. Why? The weekend first of all. This is a special four day weekend I have coming up, and I am definitely ready for it to get started.

What’s the occasion? No, it’s not a holiday in Australia. This coming Monday is my very first wedding anniversary. That doesn’t mean I’ll be abandoning my blogs by any means! Be sure to check out The Book Stacks, Fiction Scribe, and Long Relationships for some easy contests. I have some… sweet prizes to give away.

Have a great weekend!

On to the feast!

Appetizer - What was your favorite cartoon when you were a child?

When I was younger, I could not get enough of Felix the cat. I loved, loved, loved that cartoon. (Despite the fact my mother hated it.) There was something about the thought of being able to have a magic bag that would take you anywhere your heart desired…

Soup - Pretend you are about to get a new pet. Which animal would you pick, and what would you name it?

I would definitely pick a German shepherd dog (puppy, so we could train it) and name it Odin. My husband and I have talked about pets already and settled on those choices, so it’s just a matter of when, not if.

Salad - On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?

An 8, I suppose. I wouldn’t want to do it all the time or very often, but I do like doing it. Everyone likes to feel like they look like royalty every now and then.

Main Course - What kind of music do you listen to while you drive?

I don’t drive, but when I’m in the car, I pretty much just listen to whatever is on the radio. Current music. For long drives there are CDs I like to listen to - Jason Mraz, Jim Crooce, Tarot Suite, and many others.

Dessert - When was the last time you bought a clock? And in which room did you put it?

Let’s see… The last clock I bought was a silver alarm clock with the hammers and loud ticking. The kind you would imagine on dynamite. I put it in my (then) writing room because I found it inspirational.
