Friday Fill-Ins #84

Friday, August 8th, 2008

It’s Friday! Woo-hoo! I am so, so ready for the weekend. How about you? Or you an unfortunate soul who has to work on the weekend as well? Bleck. I’ll probably have to do some work, but at least not as much. Phew!

On to my latest favourite meme!

Here we go:

1. You know you’re old when __________. the snap, crackle, pop you hear in the morning isn’t your brekkie cereal.

2. My heart is divided between __________ and __________. kissing my husband, smacking him. Hahaha. Kidding. Erm… Being a hardcore housewife, being a hardcore freelancer.

3. __________ is what I need RIGHT NOW! someone to do the rest of my work.

4. I have felt the __________, I have known the depths of __________. pickle, vinegar. Hahaha. I’m in a goofy mood today.

5. Gah, won’t these people __________. shut up and let me work?

6. __________ as soon as you can! Give me a time machine

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to _____, tomorrow my plans include _____ and Sunday, I want to _____! getting some rest, canceling my gym membership, do something fun

I’m beginning to think that I have way too much fun with this meme. Then again, why not? It’s a Friday meme and I reckon everyone should start having fun Friday afternoon given that the weekend is coming. Heck, the weekend starts on Friday afternoon for some people.

That being said, I hope you all have an absolutely wonderful weekend. As always, if you participate in any of these memes on your blog, leave a link so I can check out what you have to say!

Have a good one.

Random Word Bank Wednesday

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

cupcake.jpgHello once again everyone!

Welcome to another mid-week random word bank. I rather like random word banks. There is a challenge in them that not only gets your mind working, but you can also end up with a scene that you didn’t know you had it in you to write.

I hope you find these word banks useful. If there is a type of prompt you would prefer to see, please let me know.

Remember, with all the words, you can use any form, any tense of the word. Eg. Laugh can be laugh, laughter, laughs, laughed.

For the first word bank, I don’t want you to write a short story or anything actually. What I want you to do is word association. For every word there, I want you to write the word and then write the first word that comes to your mind after.

For the second word bank, I do want you to write a short story (or something longer if you like) that incorporates this week’s theme. This round goes as usual; just include all of the words in the bank.

For the third word bank, it is something different yet again. I would like you to try your hand at writing a poem incorporating the words provided.

Enjoy!

First Word Bank
moon
corset
food
football
men
72
dandelion
yell
tea
suggest

Second Word Bank
corporate

person
home
gum
life

Third Word Bank

Whether You Like It Or Not…

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

This week I started on a restricted diet that my naturopath put me on. I have had some health issues that I haven’t been able to figure out how to fix myself and decided it was time to get some outside help. I generally eat a healthy diet, but as it turns out, I have sensitivities to some of the healthy foods I live.

I should be able to work back in some of the things I love after the six weeks is up, but for now I am faced with trying to work with what I can have. That has led to frustration quite a few times now, but I’m plowing through because it’s for my own good and will lead to good things for my future.

Today I would like you to think about a time in your life when you did something you didn’t want to do and/or have to do. Maybe you did it for your own good or someone else’s good. Maybe it was something that just needed to be done. Write about what it was you didn’t want to do, why you didn’t want to do it and the outcome of you doing it anyway.

Remember, to help clear your mind before you start writing, take a few deep breaths. Focus on the sound of the air entering and leaving your lungs. Let the noises and worries of the day fade for a few moments while you focus only on breathing.

After you are calm, think about your experiences and start writing.

Wishing you much creativity.

Musical Monday Tribute to Billy Joel

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Today on Musical Monday I would like to pay tribute to the man who has inspired me along through much of my writing since I was a teen. His music has always helped me to inspire writing in myself and get to where I needed to be to get things down on paper.

Billy Joel

William Joseph Martin Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American pianist and singer-songwriter. He released his first hit song, “Piano Man”, in 1973. According to the RIAA, he is the sixth best-selling recording artist in the United States.

Joel had Top 10 hits in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s; is a six-time Grammy Award winner, and has sold in excess of 150 million albums worldwide.

He was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame (Class of 1992), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Class of 1999), and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (Class of 2006). Joel “retired” from recording pop music in 1993 but continued to tour (sometimes with Elton John). In 2001 he subsequently released Fantasies & Delusions, a CD of classical compositions for piano. In 2007 he returned to recording with a single entitled “All My Life,” followed by an extensive “World Tour” from 2006-2008, covering many of the major world cities.

Here are two of my favourites. Enjoy and have a great day.

And So It Goes

This is the extremely talented Tommy Emmanuel playing And So It Goes. This is like the perfect combination for me – two of my all time favourite musicians combining their talents. (We just need Billy singing along.)

Friday Fill-Ins

Friday, August 1st, 2008

It’s Friday! Fridays are excellent days, I think. One of those reasons is because I get to play two of my favourite memes on Fridays - Friday Feast and the more recent one I’ve found, Friday Fill-Ins.

As it turns out, Friday Feast seems to be down for the moment. I’m not sure what is happening there, as no notice has been left, but I hope everything is okay and that the chef will be back soon. I’m not quite ready to make my own Friday Feast, but I’ll probably start next week if the chef isn’t back by then.

So today, as one way to welcome in August, I’ll be playing the one and only Friday Fill-In. I hope you enjoy and play either here in the comments or on your own blog. Leave a link so I can check out what you’ve written if you decide to play on your own blog.

And now to the fill-ins!

Here we go:

1. If I could travel back in time, I’d go to __________. When I was a child. I’d tell myself that everything will be okay.

2. Give me __________ or give me __________. Cheesecake, chocolate meringue.

3. I am listening to __________. My husband cooking in the kitchen. Poor guy is overworked and I’m busy posting here.

4. Somewhere, someone is thinking __________. I shouldn’t have eaten that taco.

5. I’ll always be __________. Female

6. My idea of a good time includes __________. Laughter

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to _____, tomorrow my plans include _____ and Sunday, I want to _____! Getting some answers from the naturopath, bonding with my husband, have a ball before I start a new diet.

And there you have it. I quite like this meme and I hope you do as well. Have a great weekend, and I’ll be back Monday.
