Friday Free Write
This has certainly been an interesting week and theme, in my opinion. Forgiveness is such an interesting topic. There are religious connections as well as “polite society” connections. Plus there are rules about forgiveness like “forgiving and then not forgetting is the same as not forgiving”.
So, for this Friday free write, I want you to sit down and write about what forgiveness means to you. No editing, no going back over what you have read, just writing until your allotted time is up. (I recommend at least five minutes.)
So what does forgiveness mean to you? Must you forgive everyone? Will you not go to heaven or whatever nice afterlife you believe in (if you believe in it) if you don’t forgive people? Do you forgive people because you have to or because it’s expected of you? Does forgiving mean forgetting, or does that just lead to more pain in the future?
