I am Woman
I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
’cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again
Ah, you have to love those lyrics. It’s been made of many times in many ways (especially the first line) but this song is still quite the song for women.
When you think of a woman, what do you think of? Yourself? Your mother? Some average woman walking down the road? A mother goddess?
There are many images of women both as part of today’s fashion and modeling culture but also throughout history. There are cultures who worship(ped) a mother goddess instead of or alongside of a father god. There are many tales of goddesses and other female beings throughout history.
There is the Virgin Mary as well as the first woman Eve. There are arguments about Adam’s ‘first wife’ Lilith.
There are many holy mothers, holy virgins, super women, angels, and much more when it comes to the female shape, influence, and stories.
Today I would like you to write about what ‘woman’ means to you. Does it mean you? Does it mean motherhood? Struggle? Religion? Power? Tap into any and all of these words to explore the feminine and what it means to you.
Don’t be afraid to push boundaries. No one has to read what you write. Not even you do. If woman/women mean something bad to you, then write about it. If it’s good or neutral…anything.
Write it all out.

Thanks, J! What an inspirational thought! I’ve created a new category on my blog for “feminine energy”, rounding up those pieces in one place.
The time when “I am Woman” came out was a crazy time. The men thought we were crazy for liking that song and there were quite a few jabs thrown out to us for it.

My absolute pleasure, Beth.
I’m looking forward to reading more feminine energy posts on your blog.
I wish I could have been around to witness those times.
